Southern Finland has four funding authorities that grant funding from the EU regional and structural policy programme: the Regional Council of South Karelia, Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council, Häme Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, and Central Finland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.
Regional councils grant funding for ERDF regional development projects in their areas. The regions of South Karelia and Kymenlaakso also have access to funding from the Just Transition Fund (JTF). The Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council is the intermediate body in the regions of Häme, Kymenlaakso, Päijät-Häme, Helsinki-Uusimaa and Southwest Finland. It also serves as the intermediate funding body for ERDF projects included in the ecosystem agreements of Lahti, Turku and cities in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
The Regional Council of South Karelia is the intermediate body for ERDF and JTF funding in South Karelia.
Tasks related to regional and structural policy funding (ERDF, ESF+ and JTF) that have been assigned to centres for economic development, transport and the environment are handled by the Häme Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment in Southern Finland and by the Central Finland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment in Southwest Finland.
